How Does Robinson FFA Alumni Association Utilize Funds?
Funds raised from sponsorships for our Annual Livestock Show are utilized in a number of ways to benefit individual student FFA and 4H members, as well as to contribute to overall activities for teambuilding, leadership development, and education.
These benefits include scholarships for graduating seniors and financial assistance to current high school students who wish to pursue agriculture science projects, but who are limited by the costs involved. We also organize and conduct numerous activities to encourage participation, leadership, and growth of the youngsters involved. Here is a partial list of these activities:
Present college scholarships to graduating seniors
- Provide assistance to students to help buy, shelter, and maintain SAE (livestock and construction trades) projects
- Contribute food and other expenses for FFA Fish Camp (A camping experience to show newcomers “the ropes”, and build relationships)
- Contribute food and supplies for FFA Messy Olympics (A fun time to play and build relationships)
- Help with expenses and entry fees for Judging Team competitions (CDEs)
- Subsidize expenses for trips to the State and National FFA Conventions
- Provide food, drinks and moral support at the McLennan County Show and at HOT Livestock Fair
- Present monetary awards to Robinson FFA McLennan County Show exhibitors
- Host Annual Robinson FFA Alumni Livestock Show
- Host Leadership Development Events (LDEs)
- Sponsor FFA Chapter Banquet meal
- Provide miscellaneous help and/or funds as requested throughout the year from the RHS Ag Science teachers, for supplies, expenses, or other unique urgent needs that arise
Many of us believe in this organization so much that we continue to be involved well after our own youngsters have graduated and moved on. To sum it up, as our late long-time club president Ralph Lange constantly reminded us, “It’s all about the kids!”
How Does Robinson FFA Alumni Raise Money to Support These Activities?
Due to the enormous amount of personal involvement the Alumni Members provide for the above activities, members are never asked to provide financial support for any activity; however, some do contribute voluntarily. Our Members no longer pay membership dues. In return for not providing any financial assistance or membership dues, each Member is asked to volunteer time to assist with at least one of the above events. Several Members participate at almost every event.
So, if our Members do not provide any financial assistance or pay any membership dues, how does the Alumni provide all of the financial assistance listed above each year? The Alumni does it by conducting fundraising activities.
Our largest fundraising project is our Annual Robinson FFA Alumni Livestock Show. Money is raised from loyal businesses providing sponsorship money for this very worthy cause. Without our Sponsors, we would not be able to provide the support we do. We cannot thank our Sponsors enough. We also collect proceeds from 50% of Exhibitor Entry Fees and from profits from Concessions Sales at our annual livestock show. Not only does this show provide funds for our association, it also provides an opportunity for FFA Members and 4-H Members from all over the Central Texas Area to show and compete for prize money with their project animals they have purchased and raised. This show would not continually be the success that it is without the continued loyal support of our many Sponsors and the many Exhibitors. Our Show has continued to grow each year and continues to be a fun-filled activity every Alumni Member can be participate in.
